UNDP TJK with funding from European Union in Tajikistan holds a two-day training session to advance the knowledge of religious’ leaders from Rasht Valley on the root causes of religious extremism issue in Tajikistan. During the session participants were able to identify early signs of radicalization among the local population, including young people, and apply preventive measures through theological support.
Information materials on PVE including the Strategy on Countering Extremism and Terrorism in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2021-2025 and the Toolkit on Prevention of Extremism, Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Returnees developed by UNDP TJK has been distributed during the event. The enhanced knowledge of religious leaders will contribute to the national efforts in the implementation of the strategy and prevention of extremism at the local level.
On May 27-28, 2023, training session has been conducted, specifically designed for religious leaders of Rasht Valley considering the crucial role religious leaders play in taking measures to prevent violent extremism through advocacy and behavioral change in peacebuilding context.
